dotProject is a web-based, multiuser, multi language Project Management application. It is open-source software, free for any users, and is maintained by an open community of volunteer programmers. It is a volunteer-supported application and is managed, maintained and supported by a volunteer group and by the users themselves. It is designed to provide project layout and control functions.
Basic data elements and management functions include: projects and tasks; companies, departments and contacts; To DO lists; and resources. Some additional features include: forums; Gantt charts (a popular type of bar chart that illustrates project schedule); access control; reporting; history of all activities; and calendar.
While day-to-day support is provided free of charge by volunteers in forums and via online documentation, optional commercial support is also available.
It is used in a huge range of applications and environments, from small offices and individuals, to companies, government departments, schools etc. It is used to manage the day-to-day activities of project progress, and for managing a defined workload, with a defined resource base cooperating to deliver a project.
